It is announced that there is an outbreak of salmonella in egg produced by[justify] an american company in Iowa. The company behind the recall, Wright County Egg, of Galt, Iowa, is owned by Jack DeCoster, who has had run-ins with regulators over poor or unsafe working conditions, environmental violations, the harassment of workers and the hiring of illegal immigrants.
These eggs were distributed in California, Minnesota and Colorado from the period between may 16 and August 13.
The outbreak is thought to be caused by S. enteriditis,
.Dr. Braden said that it was not yet possible to say how many people had fallen ill in the outbreak although it certainly numbered in the hundreds. Typically in salmonella outbreaks, only about one in 30 cases is reported to authorities, he said, so thousands of people may have been affected. He said there were no reports of deaths.
The main symptoms are Diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting. In rare cases it may cause arterial infections. So be careful and avoid eating raw or undercooked eggs.
